Dear Local Artist,

Local breast cancer survivors and Fort Wayne’s roller derby team, the Fort Wayne Derby Girls, are teaming up in an effort to raise money for young women with breast cancer in our community. Near the end of summer, we will be hosting an art exhibit and silent auction in conjunction with local artists and businesses. The most recent event of this type was successful in raising over $4,000, and our intention is to exceed this amount with your assistance.

A group of local artists and women will be volunteering their talents and their bodies to create unique, inspiring cast representations of the female breast and the emotions associated with breast cancer. Each cast will be painted by a local artist, mounted on a powder-coated metal stand, and auctioned off for charity.

As we begin to organize the event, we wanted to extend an invitation to you to lend your artistic talents to this cause. Our goal is to have the casts ready for the artists by June 1, which will allow ample time for completion. We are in the process of selecting a venue that can offer us the opportunity to display the casts for approximately one month before the auction and host a gala that will include hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and live music. It will be an event to remember.

We are very proud of our accomplishments and the $26,000 we have donated to local women and children’s charities since the league was established in October 2005. We embody the strength, courage, and vitality of Fort Wayne women while providing another form of athletic entertainment to the Summit City.
