Dear Cancer Survivor,

Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana and the Fort Wayne Derby Girls are teaming up in an effort to raise money for supplies and support services for individuals dealing with breast cancer. Near the end of summer, we will host an art exhibit and silent auction in conjunction with local artists, breast cancer survivors and businesses. The most recent event of this type was successful in raising over $4,000, and our intention is to exceed this amount with your assistance.

Derby Girls are tough, but there is nothing tougher than a cancer survivor, and we want to celebrate your mental, emotional and physical toughness and your victory over a disease that touches so many women. Many of us have supported our mothers, aunts, grandmothers, friends and each other through the pain and emotions associated with breast cancer, and we understand the sensitive nature of and self-consciousness that may result from a mastectomy.

This cause is personal to us and we want you to get involved. A group of local artists and women will be volunteering their talents and their bodies to create unique, inspiring cast representations of the female bust and the emotions associated with breast cancer. Each cast will be painted by a local artist, mounted on a powder-coated metal stand, and auctioned off for charity.

We are in the process of selecting a venue that can offer us the opportunity to display the casts for approximately one month before the auction and host a gala that will include hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and live music. It will be an event to remember.

We are proud of our accomplishments and the $26,000 we have donated to local women and children’s charities since the league was established in October 2005. We embody the strength, courage, and vitality of Fort Wayne women while providing another form of athletic entertainment to the Summit City.

We will hold a series of discrete and private “casting” parties at Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana, featuring wine, cheese and sisterhood. Together we can make a difference.
