Member of the FWDG Bomb Squad Captain of the Smokin' Guns Position: Pivot, Blocker, Jammer 2006 Team: Evil (Captain) 2006 Season Awards: 2007 Team: The Smokin' Guns 2007 Season Awards: FWDG Since October 2005
Bio: Born and raised in a small Midwest town by a “Beaver Cleaver-like” family, Miss Jane RedRum learned at an early age what it meant to be bored. With cornfields as far as the eye could see, there wasn’t much in the way of entertainment. Instead of movie-going and party-hopping, Miss Jane and a small group of misfits began meddling in the life of crime. First neighborhood cats and dogs turned up missing, then actual townspeople. No one knows for sure what Miss Jane and her misfits did with the missing; one can only speculate—still, she wanted more. Nothing could quench her thirst for danger and excitement. Some people say she is responsible for numerous murder sprees in the Midwest, but nothing has been proven. Regardless if the tales are true, Miss Jane is a force to be reckoned with. Today, she can be found satisfying her desire to live on the edge as a member of the Fort Wayne Derby Girls where she has been named RedRum in honor of the murderous tales that cloud her past. Watch out, or you may be the next to turn up missing. Derby Questionnaire: Where are you from? Originally from Winnebago, IL. I moved to Fort Wayne in
2002.
How did you hear about roller derby? My hubby found a call-out flier at Henry's in October 2005. The flier said that a couple girls were trying to start a league here. What was it about roller derby that interested you? Many things... the empowerment of women, the entertainment value to the community, the ability to donate funds to local charities, and the physical work out! What is your "real life" occupation? Editor for a publishing company & English Professor What is your worst derby-related injury to date? I have the notorious distinction as being the first to sustain a concussion. Early on in our training, helmets were not required. After my spill, they became mandatory! Please list a crazy unknown fact about yourself. I have had my tongue frozen to metal in the winter several times. As a result, my tongue is pretty short because chunks were ripped off in the process of unfreezing. How did you come up with your skate name? I love "The Shining" and I think Jane is the toughest girls name you can have. What do you like best about derby? The comraderie amongst all the girls and our ability to donate money to local charities. Educational background: Winnebago High School 1997, Bachelor's of Art in English and Secondary Teaching Certification from Northern Illinois University, Master's of Business Administration from Indiana Tech. On which FWDG committees do you serve? Steering, Sponsorship, Website Chair, Events Chair What is your favorite FWDG memory? There really are too many to recall.... Saturday morning skate classes when there were only 5 of us on the league, rowdy after practice meetings at Kaysan's, Bang Bang beating up Pedro for me, the sweet smell of victory after APOW, Summer Shovin and Derby Deeds, the list goes on and on.
