Bio:

Legend has it that Val Catraz is the only woman to cross the threshold of Alcatraz as an inmate. Too brutally mean for the toughest women’s high security facilities, Alcatraz was the most logical place for her to serve her sentence. She served some hard time there until her infamous escape in 2001. Upon her escape she lived life on the run for several years until she was recruited by the Fort Wayne Derby Girls. She is now one of their toughest competitors. On the rink Val Catraz gives new meaning to incarceration. If you are a jammer entering her pack you better watch out or she will take you prisoner. Any Fort Wayne Derby Girl will tell you that there’s truly no escaping Val Catraz.

Derby Questionnaire:

Where are you from?

Born and raised in Fort Wayne, IN.

How did you hear about roller derby?

I saw an article in the Journal Gazette, so Kitty Kiljoy and I went to the recruiting event at Munchie's.

What was it about roller derby that interested you?

Everything: the physical aspect of the sport and the community involvement.

What is your "real life" occupation?

Bartender/Waitress, Makeup Artist/Nail Tech, Student

What is your worst derby-related injury to date?

I could barely skate when I started out and I fell and hit my tailbone at the first practice.

Please list a crazy unknown fact about yourself.

I like the Carpenters.

How did you come up with your skate name?

I kept going back and forth between a few names. I was having a really hard time deciding. Then Val Catraz popped into my head and it felt like a good fit.

What do you like best about derby?

The sisterhood, the fact that I can take out all my aggression on the rink, and the way it makes me push myself. I also love that we have been able to do so much for women's and children's charities!

Educational Background:

Currently in college

On which FWDG committees do you serve?

What is your favorite FWDG memory?

Hmm... too many to choose from, but winning Fear & Loathing, the last bout of 2006 and the first win for Team Good, was amazing.
